Mixing furniture styles/finishes

*First, I want to say hello to those of you that found my blog courtesy of Eddie Ross. I'm a huge fan of Eddie's (and Jaithan's!) and am honored he shared a link to my blog on his recent post. I'm sure you can tell by the picture he posted of me laughing along side him, how much fun his workshops are. I posted some additional pics from the monogram hurricane workshop here. So, Welcome!

Back to my regularly scheduled blogging-

I see lots of questions about mixing furniture pieces on The Nest and other decor forums that I visit. It seems that people (myself included) struggle with creating a cohesive look with mismatched pieces. However with a few simple guidelines, mismatched furniture can create a beautiful, interesting space.

Houzz published a great article about this very topic. The article explains how to properly pull off this look.

Here are some examples of beautiful rooms, incorporting mixed furniture pieces-

Aren't these rooms beautiful and much more interesting than picking out a matching set from a catalog?

I'd love to see some of your rooms and feature them on my blog. Send me some pics!

  2. Great idea! Love seeing a creative mind work and gain success!!!!!! Hope it continues to grow!

  3. Suzanne, I've actually JUST recently succumb to this way of thinking when it comes to decorating my home with furniture! A year ago I was all about looking for bedroom sets and whatnot... now I'm super excited to find pieces here and there (that I can, of course, make DIY projects out of lol) and GLAD that we didn't have the money to purchase a matching set when I thought I wanted/needed it! =)

  4. @Karena-It was so fun to meet you! I'd love to come visit with you again.

    @Mobile-Thank you:)

    @The Youngs-I was the same way. When we first moved in, I had all of these 'sets' picked out and was just waiting for the $ to purchase. Now, I'm so happy to mix and macth and find individual pieces that I truly LOVE. It makes my home feel much more personalized. Glad I'm not the only one who only recently came around to this:)

  5. Wow I am just in the midst of trying to decorate a completely empty house. I will be checking back to your blog from now on for inspiration.

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog. Comments from my sweet readers make my day! You can always email me at scsa25@gmail.com if you prefer as well. love, S
